WHEN GOD DELIVERS YOU, DON’T RUN BACK TO WHAT HE FREED YOU FROM
When the grace begins to lift from a place, it is because God has already moved ahead of you. He is calling you forward, not backward. But just like the Israelites, many people feel the pull to return to the very places they cried out to be rescued from.

When the grace begins to lift from a place, it is because God has already moved ahead of you. He is calling you forward, not backward. But just like the Israelites, many people feel the pull to return to the very places they cried out to be rescued from.
God delivered Israel from Egypt — from chains, from torment, from bondage, from abuse. Their prayers were answered. Their cries were heard. God broke the power of Pharaoh and led them out by His mighty hand.
But the moment the journey got uncomfortable…
the moment the wilderness didn’t feel familiar…
the moment transition demanded trust…
they wanted to go back.
Back to what was predictable.
Back to what was familiar.
Back to what was “easier.”
Back to the place of slavery.
They told Moses:
“It was better for us in Egypt!” (Exodus 14:12)
Better?
Better to be beaten?
Better to be slaves?
Better to live under oppression?
This is what the spirit of fear does — it makes bondage look safer than freedom.
Many people today are the same.
God takes them out of a toxic job, a poisonous relationship, a demonic environment, a dead church, a cycle of sin…
and what happens when transition stretches their faith?
They want to run back to Egypt.
Not because Egypt was good,
but because Egypt was comfortable.
People don’t always miss their past — they miss the illusion of control that came with it.
But hear this clearly:
Do not return to the chains God shattered.
Do not revisit what God rescued you from.
Do not go back to the wells that once poisoned you.
When the grace is gone, staying becomes disobedience.
When the season ends, holding on becomes rebellion.
When God calls you to Canaan, going back to Egypt will destroy you.
Israel turned a 40 day journey into a 40-year delay because they would rather complain than trust, would rather fear than obey, would rather die in the desert than step into destiny.
Do not die in transition.
Do not die with your promise just across the river.
Do not let comfort make you a slave again.
You cannot pray for the Promised Land and cling to Egypt at the same time.
If God delivered you — MOVE FORWARD.
If God closed the door — WALK AWAY.
If God lifted the grace — DON’T STAY.
The enemy wants you to believe the desert is punishment.
But the desert is training.
Preparation.
Refining.
Proof of faith.
The Promised Land is on the other side of obedience.
Father, in the name of Jesus, break every temptation to return to Egypt. Uproot every desire to return to bondage, toxic people, old patterns, and familiar chains. Silence the voice of fear. Silence the voice of the past.
Remove the slave mentality from our minds. Plant courage, faith, and trust. When we are tempted to go backward, remind us of the truth: that You delivered us with purpose, with power, and with promise.
Let us not die in the wilderness as the Israelites did. Let us not forfeit destiny. Give us the strength to move forward, even when we cannot see the road ahead. Lead us into the land of milk and honey — the place already prepared for us.
In Jesus’ mighty name,
Amen.
