we lift before you all who have worn the uniform of our nation— those who served with courage, endured hardship, and risked all for the sake of peace.
Bless the veterans still among us with strength of mind and body, and grant them the comfort of knowing their service is honored and remembered.
Receive into your loving arms those who have fallen in battle and those who have died after their years of service.
Grant them rest from their labors, freedom from suffering, and a place in the light of your eternal kingdom.
Lord, teach us to walk in the ways of peace,
to uphold the dignity of every human life,
and to be worthy of the sacrifices made for our freedom.
May your grace unite the living and the dead in the promise of resurrection, in thy holy name we pray.
Amen.
Today is Election Day, a privilege made possible by the dedication and sacrifice of service members who have protected democratic freedoms both at home and abroad.
Before the formal commemorations of Veterans Day, it is fitting to pause in gratitude and reflect on all those who serve and have served, who step forward so that the rest of us may freely participate in choosing our destiny.
