Bible Verse; Proverbs 4:23 Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life.
What does this mean in this day and age? It means what it meant then, to be vigilant and diligent and guard the heart, it holds the spring of life. It holds the power of you. We seem to think that the problems of this world are just for our age but fail to realize why Jesus came in the time that He did. It's simple, it was a time of great evil as well.
But what does guarding our hearts look like? It means being diligent on what we choose to consume. See, in our society we lack the ability to realize that everything we see and do, down to what is acceptable to wear to work and eat, are, not only culturally based, but, also, a type of "brainwashing" if you will. Now this isn't for us to overthink all of societal norms but, instead, focus on the root of the problem in the Biblical sense.
It means to be careful what you consume in conversation, movies, music, etc. This isn't always easy in our day in age but ask yourself this question, has your surroundings taught you to go against anything that Jesus taught, including hating people whom may not look at act like you? We have to be careful as individuals in Christ and in an Order built to show His love and compassion of what influences us to do the opposite.
